How to Find New York Marriage Records

Since 1880, marriage records have been held and maintained by New York Vital Records. The records available for request, marriage certificates, are not complete records, because the information it contains is still very general. Although it is not complete, it is still a valid form of proof that a marriage has occurred.

Genealogy | Archdiocese of New York

The most frequent reference requests we get here at the Archives are of a genealogical nature. Until now, the Archives did not hold any sacramental requests and had to direct researchers to parishes throughout the Archdiocese. We are delighted to announce the first stage in making these records more readily available for all researchers.
